Motorway A31 "Emstunnel" Home > Projects > A31 Emstunnel Project Conception The motorway A31 runs from Emden in Lower-Saxony to Bottrop in North Rhine-Westphalia, connecting the remote region of Ostfriesland with the economic region of the Rhur valley. At the same time the motorway connects to the Euro-pean road 22 and is thus via A280 and A28 the extension of the Dutch A7 to the Bremen area. At Leer in Lower-Saxony the motorway A31 leads through the two tubes of the 945 m long Ems-tunnel. The tunnel was opened for traffic in 1989 and during the renovation in 2007 equipped with an extensive traffic control system.
Start of construction: June 2006. Opening for traffic: May 2007. Weiss-Electronic realised the project by order of the company Cegelec. |
