Project Conception

On the most important main roads of the city, the exact traffic volume is detected per video or infrared detection systems. The data is transmitted within seconds per GSM (for infrared) or data line (for video) to the traffic system management centre. There, the data of the different systems is collected and analysed. Thus, the operator can react directly to any disturbances in the fraffic flow and e.g. change the programs for the traffic light installations. The route-control installation "Heerdter Dreieck" with Vario-displays and variable direction signs reacts automatically to the changes in traffic flow. More Vario-displays will be installed in the city area.

Not only drivers will benefit from these measures by being better informed and therefore able to avoid congested roads. Also pedestrians, cyclists and people living in the city will benefit from the reduction of pollution and noise.
