Detail view

Function description

The MC2024 is a classification detector, operating with two induction loops per lane, in accordance with TLS specification. According to the required classification, the MC2024 can be delivered as 2, (5+1), or (8+1) class version. The classification meets the accuracies required in the TLS when the two types of TLS loops are used. It is not influenced e.g. by weather conditions. On activation of the directional logic, reports of drivers on the wrong side of the road can be generated.

The vehicle type is determined by the passing-curves, which have characteristic features depending on the different classes and the two TLS loop types.

The detector can provide the following single-vehicle data via the RS485 interface, depending on the classification version:

Single vehicle data vehicle class, speed (up to 300 km/h), length, distance,
time of occupancy, time gap, driving direction
(8+1) vehicle classes acc. to TLS other vehicles1 / motorbike2 / car3 / van4 / car with trailer5 / lorry6 / lorry with trailer7 / articulated lorry8 / bus9
(5+1) vehicle classes acc. to TLS other vehicles1 / car group234 / car with trailer5 / lorry6 /
lorry combination78 / bus9
2 vehicle classes acc. to TLS car-similar vehicles 1234 / lorry similar vehicles56789

Thus, only single-vehicle data is transferred, via the RS485 bus, to a Weiss-Electronic IOC , which takes over further data aggregation in accordance with TLS specifications.

The detector automatically adjusts itself to the attached loop/feed-cable combination. Variations in temperature have no influence on data acquisition. The measuring systems are permanently checked for short or open loops, only when a definite malfunction is detected, systems are put into a failure condition. If one loop of a TLS double-loop system is disturbed, the remaining loop supplies further data on time of occupancy, time gap and a classification of car-similar and lorry-similar vehicles. Speeds and vehicle lengths cannot be determined.

Short measuring intervals and a new procedure for speed measurement provide for the high accuracy of the measured data and the high detection speed, according to the requirements of the TLS.

Parameter settings

The following parameters can be adjusted via the front-side service interface:
  • Type of loop system (TLS loop type I/II)
  • Frequency of measuring system
  • Power on/off of measuring system
  • Adjustment of DT address (RS485 bus)
  • Directional logic of measuring system (detection of drivers on wrong side of the road)
  • Length correction of measuring system (classification parameters)

Fault detection during tuning and operation

The detector recognizes during alignment and operation e.g. a loop short-circuit or an unwired loop-input and displays this by the centralized alarm LED " ERROR ". A corresponding error message can be displayed on the manual terminal and/or PC.
