Continuous monitoring of the traffic situation on all lanes and lay-bys and quick detection of smoke are important parts of an early and reliable incident detection. Video-detection systems offer decisive advantages over other detection systems. With a camera a relatively long stretched zone of the tunnel can be permanently monitored. With cameras installed in a distance of 100 m to 120 m, the complete length of the tunnel tube can be kept under surveillance without interruption. Especially for these kinds of requirements, the video-systems SoloPro and RackVision were extended by new detector functions. The configuration files for lane and smoke detectors are easily adjusted. Important for the optimal functioning of the incident detection is the correct positioning and adjustment of the cameras. To do so, the basic specifications for installation must be observed. Tunnel Lane Detector (TLD) The Tunnel Lane Detector TLD allows the monitoring of several separate zones. Within these zones the traffic flow is detected, rapid decrease of speed, broken down vehicles and wrong directed drivers cause an alarm. As standard procedure for the lane detector software, extensive detection zones are created by means of mouse and keyboard. Within these zones the software checks for stopped or slow vehicles, or ones going in the wrong direction. Detail view In the zones the speed of individual vehicles is monitored. Additionally, interferences from the next lane (e.g. occlusion, overlapping by other vehicles) are taken into account resp. eliminated. Outdoor Lane Detector (OLD) The Outdoor Lane Detector provides the functionalities of the Tunnel Lane Detector for the outside and entrance areas of a tunnel. The detector possesses a sophisticated shadow processing, which accounts for the extreme differences in brightness between inside and outside of the tunnel. Outside of the tunnel, areas e.g. underneath bridges, can be blanked out so that shadows won't cause any misdetections. Detail view Tunnel Smoke Detector (TSD) The Tunnel Smoke Detector divides the video image into a matrix and checks permanently the contrast situation in the individual image segments. A variation of contrast in particular image areas firstly causes a pre-alarm; if the smoke development increases, the main alarm is activated. The smoke detector provides two outputs: One output as pre-alarm / warning and one alarm output. The pre-alarm goes off if smoke is suspected on the scene. The proper alarm is activated as soon as the smoke detection is firm. The smoke detector software for tunnel application can be easily installed and operated. Detail view
